Important Odisha Shop & Establishment Law Update

The Odisha Shops and Commercial Establishments (Amendment) Act, 2025 was published on 16 January 2026 and is deemed to have come into force from 8 November 2025.

01

Registration Threshold

The amended Section 4 provides for registration of establishments employing twenty or more employees, within six months from commencement of business.

02

Odia Signboard

Section 4A requires the name of the establishment to be displayed prominently on a signboard in Odia, irrespective of the number of employees.

03

Registration Timeline

The amended Section 4 provides for registration application within six months from commencement of business for establishments covered by that provision.

04

Seven Working Days

The amended provision states that the Inspector is to issue the registration certificate within seven working days of receipt of the application; otherwise the certificate is deemed granted under the Act.
